Revolution:1775-1790

During the Revolutionary War, the residents of Manchester mostly supported the Patriot cause. The General Assembly had authorized a system of warehouses throughout the town to provide supplies, food, and logistical support for the Continental Army. Many of the warehouse were owned by local merchants who, because of business interests, supported the British Crown. The names of these merchants were published, and many of them had their warehouses confiscated for use or sale by the colonial authorities. The area then became a staging ground for the Continental Army. Local militia briefly resisted a raid by British General Benedict Arnold in January 1781 before being driven off. Manchester was not harmed during the war.
